Lindsey Kittredge '95 and Shooting Touch Awarded IOC Grant

The International Olympic Committee recently awarded Sport and Active Society Grants to four “sport-for-all” programs from around the globe that contribute to the social and athletic development of their communities. One of the recipients was Shooting Touch, Inc., a Boston-based sport for development organization run by Lindsey (Cronin) Kittredge ’95 and her husband, Justin.

Founded in 2007, Shooting Touch uses basketball to empower young people around the world running social development programs both in Boston and abroad. Shooting Touch has impacted more than 11,000 youth globally with much of their international work taking place in the African nation of Rwanda.

“Our overseas program, the Basketball Health Corps, uses the power of sports to mobilize youth to absorb an education they normally wouldn’t receive,” Kittredge said in an interview for this fall’s Riparian. “Sixty-seven percent of the population in Rwanda is under the age of 25, which makes our work there that much more important.”

Locally, Kittredge and Shooting Touch recently partnered with the Boston Police Department and several charter and public schools in Boston to launch G3, or Getting Girls in the Game. In its first year, G3 is serving 75 middle school girls from low-income families to “provide a safe, supporting, sport-based response to barriers in girls’ health, self-esteem, and access to regularly scheduled physical activity.”

The IOC grant is worth $20,000 and will help Shooting Touch provide their invaluable service to more youth around the world. The grants are awarded by the Sport and Active Society Commission to facilitate their mission of encouraging people everywhere to participate in regular physical activity and to promote the health and social benefits of sport.

“We look forward to seeing how these development grants can help them pursue their missions and inspire others who are making tremendous strides in increasing access to sport across the globe,” said Sport and Active Society Commission Chair Sam Ramsamy.
