Summer Internship Reflections: Lauren Heuer '16 and Charlie Watkins '16
This summer, five students have taken on rigorous internships through Rivers’ Summer Internship Program and they will be sharing their experiences throughout the summer.
This week we have reflections from Lauren Heuer ’16 and Charlie Watkins ’16, who are taking part in internships at Mass General Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital, respectively. Below are excerpts from their reflections, which can be found in their entirety on our Facebook page.
Lauren Heuer
My time at Massachusetts General Hospital has been nothing short of incredible. I feel so lucky to have the chance to intern in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), as I am overwhelmed with learning opportunities. I am having direct interactions with patients, exposure to various complicated cases, access to procedures, and meaningful conversations with doctors. I truly cannot think of a more amazing summer experience.

Charlie Watkins
The Surgical Navigation and Robotics Lab is far from a typical workplace. Certainly, it does include the reception desk, the central computer stations, and the “boss’s” office; however, the people who make up this special place and the work that they do is far from commonplace. A subdivision of the radiology department at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, this lab’s primary purpose is to create solutions through robotics, imaging, and software to issues in the surgical world, incorporating the worlds of robotics, engineering, software, medicine, and academia into a high-functioning and results-based workplace towards biomedical development.
