New Girls’ Basketball Coach Named

“I’m full of joy and gratitude to have the opportunity to lead this program,” says Miller. “Rivers offers the trifecta: a devoted community, the highest level of academics and preparation, and a basketball program with a rich tradition of excellence. I look forward to working to build on the program’s success and above all, offering unconditional support to my players on and off the court.”

Miller spent five years as an assistant coach at her alma mater, Harvard University. Coaching alongside her mentor, Kathy Delaney-Smith, Miller also served as Harvard’s recruiting coordinator. She worked to evaluate and recruit top players nationally and internationally. Miller also focused on player development, academic advising, and mentorship.

A psychology major in college who went on to earn an M.Ed. in Boston University's clinical counseling and sports psychology program, Miller founded Net Excellence, LLC, which offers sports psychology services to athletes and teams. She is a member of the Association of Applied Sports Psychology. Additionally, Miller (whose maiden name was Hallion) is the director of Hallion Hoop Academy, a girls’ basketball program focused on growth through skill development and competition in a positive environment. The program has served more than 500 female participants locally. Miller currently works as a counselor at Regis College and lives in Needham with her husband and two children.

Departing coach and AD Pipe says he is “thrilled” to have Miller step into the role of girls’ basketball coach. “I have known Lindsay for a long time, and I was able to follow her career at Harvard and beyond,” says Pipe. “When I knew I was stepping down as the coach, Lindsay was at the top of my list of people I’d want to take over the program. Lindsay will be a great coach and leader of young women. I’m confident not only that Rivers will continue to be one of the top programs in New England, but that Lindsay has the ability to bring it to the next level for many years to come.”

As a player, Miller was a two-time All-Ivy selection and senior captain. She was part of three Ivy League championship teams and played in the NCAA tournament. Miller was named the team’s most valuable player as a junior and a senior and won the Harvard Pride Award as a freshman and a senior. She was a member of ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team. After graduating from college, in 2008, Miller played overseas in Europe.

A native of Westwood, Mass., Miller played on two state championship teams at Westwood High School and was part of a 71-game winning streak. She is a three-time Boston Globe and Boston Herald All-Scholastic and remains Westwood High School’s all-time leading scorer, male or female.
