New Head Football Coach Named

Football season may seem far away, but it’s never far from the minds of the dedicated Rivers athletics staff. Athletic Director Bob Pipe was pleased to announce recently the promotion of Randdy Lindsey P’22, ’24, ’26 from associate head football coach to head football coach, effective immediately. Lindsey takes over from Tom Bourdeau, who will remain as assistant coach.
Lindsey brings a wealth of experience to the position. A member of the Rivers football coaching staff since August 2019, he has served as head baseball coach for the Middle School since 2017. He is also head coach for Mass Elite Football University National Team, a program for middle schoolers, and formerly worked as assistant defensive coordinator and special teams coordinator at Framingham High School.

Pipe says that Lindsey’s background and experience made him a great candidate for the position. “Randdy was the associate head coach last year, and he did a great job,” says Pipe. “He is incredibly knowledgeable, and kids respect him. We are thrilled to have him take over our football program.” Pipe adds that the newly reassigned coaching staff will also enjoy the benefits of continuity. “It’s great that Tom is going to stay on as an assistant coach,” he says, adding that Bourdeau’s responsibilities as newly named assistant director of finance and operations necessitated his stepping away from the head coach role.

Bourdeau is upbeat about the change. “Randdy Lindsey is a fantastic football coach and mentor to student-athletes,” he says. “He brings an unparalleled level of energy and dedication to the coaching profession. Rivers football is in a great situation having him take over as Head Coach.”

Lindsey has been serving in a coaching role at Rivers since 2017, but his connection to Rivers goes back a bit further. “My wife, Dellren, and I have been part of the Rivers community for five years now, with three children who attend Rivers,” he says.

Lindsey is looking forward to tackling his new role and sees it—at least in part—as a way to give back to Rivers. “It was an honor to be named head coach of football. The support that Bob Pipe, Tom Bourdeau, and fellow parents have given me have been so important to my growth, not only as a coach but as a father and husband. I wanted to give that same kind of support back to the Rivers community, through football. This will be an exciting season, and I’m looking forward to all the support from the Rivers community during game days.”
