Gender: Beyond the Binary Parent/Caregiver Programming with Alex Myers, Session 1: What is gender and why does it matter?

As we communicated earlier this fall, this year’s DEI theme is “Gender: Beyond the Binary.” This winter, we’re excited to engage parents/caregivers around this topic with several upcoming evening events. Rivers is pleased to offer two virtual parent/caregiver sessions facilitated by Alex Myers (he/his), an educator and author who currently teaches English at Phillips Exeter Academy. Since coming out as transgender in 1995, Alex has worked with numerous schools to help them support transgender students and become more gender inclusive. Alex will offer two virtual sessions, on January 27 and February 9. Though session two will build on session one, parents/caregivers are welcome to attend either or both. This interactive session will look at the basics of gender, consider some helpful terminology and concepts, and then dive into how gender shapes our perception of self and the world around us.
