In order to make learning productive, fun, and engaging, there must be a solid foundation on which all devices and apps reside. The Rivers Tech Office team takes pride in the fact that we have invested in the right hardware, services, and IT staff to facilitate and support the successful implementation of technology across the full breadth of the Rivers academic program.
In addition to their central role in maintaining a stable, robust network and managing devices across the whole campus, the Tech Office also collaborates closely with the Director of Academic Technology and Heads of the Middle and Upper School to ensure that emerging technologies are discussed and reviewed for pilot programs and implementation into the classroom. New hardware and software undergo a rigorous trial period before full adoption, including pilot programs within the Tech Office and with volunteer faculty. Interested faculty members are invited to propose hardware and software purchases for short-term demo in their offices and classrooms, during which time they receive regular support and training as needed from the Tech Office team.
Recent examples include iPad keyboards and styluses, the latest model of the Apple TV AirPlay receiver, the Reflector screen capture app, virtual whiteboard hardware, and others. During the 1:1 program research period, numerous other devices underwent extensive evaluation, including the Microsoft Surface tablet, different models of the Google Chromebook, and other laptop options.
