Technology at Rivers

Rivers has embraced the Apple iPad and pencil learning tool for both Upper and Lower Schools. Faculty and students use the iPad to take advantage of the vast amount of educational software offered through Apple’s app store. In addition, the school’s Technology Committee is charged with discovering new apps, tools, and practices that faculty can use to bring fresh ideas into their classrooms.

In September 2018, Rivers established a Center for Community and Civic Engagement, an academic resource housed in a large conference space that is outfitted with a large-screen, video conferencing system. Students and faculty use the system to connect with a wide range of individuals from outside the Rivers community who are willing to share their expertise and knowledge on various kinds of topics and subject areas.

Core Apps

For some apps that are used extensively, students are helped to develop a list of key skills and are provided with suggested workflows, in-depth how-to videos, and ongoing training opportunities. For other apps, students are given access to a short overview video to shows its basic functioning and potential uses.
