The Rivers campus may be in summer mode, but administrators, faculty, staff, and trustees on hand extended a warm welcome to new Head of School Ned Parsons and his family this week. Parsons officially began his tenure as Rivers’ eighth Head on July 1 and is anxious to immerse himself in the life of the school as soon as possible.

“I’m thrilled to be here fully now, to get started in earnest on the exciting work of coming to know Rivers and the people here,” commented Parsons. “My experience with the faculty and the Board over the last several months has solidified for me everything I came to understand about Rivers during the interview process.”

Parsons, his wife Lisa, and their sons, Will and Charlie, moved to Weston from the Loomis Chaffee campus in Windsor, Connecticut, where Ned was Dean of Faculty. Charlie Parsons will be starting as a sophomore at Rivers in September while Will plans to remain at Loomis Chaffee for his senior year.

Throughout July and August, Parsons plans to meet with trustees, faculty, and staff as summer schedules permit. In the fall, there will be numerous opportunities for Rivers parents and alumni to meet with him and begin to get to know him.

“The slower pace of summer will give us the time to exchange ideas and plans with Ned before the opening of school,” said Assistant Head of School Jim Long. “We’re all looking forward to building a working partnership with him.”

As dean of faculty at Loomis Chaffee, Parsons developed strong collaborative relationships with the faculty and administration, and as a former English teacher and coach there, he has always been closely involved with students. He is looking forward to establishing a similar rapport here with faculty and students, as well as with Rivers’ parents and alumni.

“The Rivers community is fully engaged in the call to action inherent in the phrase Excellence with Humanity,” said Parsons, “and I’m eager to work with the talented faculty and students here as we bring that phrase to life each and every day.”
