Big Band Wins Gold at MAJE All-State

The Rivers Big Band has enjoyed a great amount of success this year and that continued on Saturday when they took home a gold medal from the Massachusetts Association for Jazz Education (MAJE) State Finals.
The Rivers Big Band has enjoyed a great amount of success this year and that continued on Saturday when they took home a gold medal from the Massachusetts Association for Jazz Education (MAJE) State Finals at Framingham High School. This comes on the heels of a gold medal at the Central Senior District competition earlier this month.
 
As a result of this performance, the Big Band will perform on May 4 at the Hatch Shell.
 
The judges commended the big band for its commitment to constant improvement, saying that the band is better every time they watch it play.
 
“I think that is the best compliment for us because it is crucial we are constantly working on improving as an ensemble and fine-tuning our work to get to the next musical plateau,” said band director Phillippe Crettien.
 
Jamie Juviler ‘14, John Nydam ’15, James Hotchkiss ’14, and Richard Oates ’14 all received Outstanding Muscianship awards for their part in the performance.
 
John McDaniel ’14, Nate Johnson ’14, Ben Soloway ’14, Michael Bailey ’14, Jake Stenquist ’15, Rachel Hawley ’15, Jeffery Lin ’15, Jack Reid ’15, Silvia Curry ’16, Roger Wirkala ’16, Lincoln Zaleski ‘16, Samuel Denomme ’16, Joseph Nedder ’18, and Michael Manasseh ’19 make up the rest of this standout ensemble.
