Earlier this month, 14 students from the Rivers Model United Nations club traveled to New York City for a special conference at Columbia University. The Columbia Model United Nations Conference and Exposition (CMUNCE), taking place January 14 to 17, featured students participating in mock committees ranging from the Imperial Council of Japan to the International Court of Justice (IJC) that tried Serbia for war crimes during the Balkan Wars.
Rivers performed well in the event, with Model UN Co-President Tanner Powers ’11 winning an Outstanding Delegate award for his contribution to the IJC, and Dara Behjat ’11 earning an Honorable Mention award for his work in the Persian Emperor Xerxes’ Council of War against the Greeks.
