Showcasing The Arts at Rivers This Week
12/7/2009
It’s a good week to be in the arts program at Rivers, with several events on campus to celebrate student music and art. Starting off the month-long, campus-wide Upper School Arts Show taking place in the Davenport Gallery, The MacDowell Library, and Haynes Hall, the Rivers Art Department has organized a special reception in Davenport Gallery Tuesday, December 8, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
More than 140 pieces from 120 Rivers students will be on display, include drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, computer graphics, ceramics and sculpture pieces.
“[The art show] is a celebration of the creative vision and technical proficiency of our many talented student artists in a diverse array of media,” says art department chair David Saul. “The gallery reception is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy this visual feast of artwork by our students.”
Also on the calendar tomorrow is the school’s Choral Arts Night, featuring the Upper and Middle School Choruses performing music ranging from Renaissance pieces to American jazz and Broadway standards. The concert is at 6:00 p.m. and will be in the Rivera Recital Hall in the Bradley Hall Building.
The Upper School Choruses, under the direction of Susan Emmanouilidis, include the Women's Chorus, Men's Chorus and Jazz Choir. The Middle School Chorus is under the direction of John Bower.
