Olverson Fund Earmarked for Epiphany School

Head of School Ned Parsons and Director of Admissions Gillian Lloyd visited the Epiphany School in Boston recently to share the exciting news that The Tom and Rogers Olverson Fund has been earmarked for students from that school.

The Olverson Fund was established by the Board of Trustees this past spring to recognize the seventeen-year tenure of Tom Olverson. During that time, academic excellence, supportive relationships, innovative thinking, character development, and the overall quality of each student’s experience became central to the mission of the school. At the Olversons’ request, the fund will support students from the Epiphany School who have the capacity to impact the Rivers community with their demonstrated talents, passion, and character.

The Epiphany School, an independent, tuition-free middle school for children from Boston neighborhoods, was founded in 1997 in the belief that every child deserves a quality education in a supportive environment. The school serves approximately 90 financially qualified students in grades 5-8, with a 12-hour school day, small classes, tutoring, and individualized attention and essential skill building.

Rogers Olverson was a frequent, dedicated volunteer at the school for more than a decade. She volunteered as a reading tutor and in the development office. In addition, she served as the Outreach Committee chair for her church, the Parish of Good Shepherd in Waban, which generously supports Epiphany and their families each year.

Parsons and Lloyd enjoyed a tour of the school with Head of School John Finley and had lunch with three Epiphany students. They were impressed by the level of involvement of the faculty and staff with the students as well as the comprehensiveness of the services they offer. They also caught up with Emily Centeio, Rivers Class of 2006, who is an Epiphany graduate and Director of Epiphany’s Student Support Services.
