Nick Revers '15 Serves Up Snack Sticks

Rivers students are encouraged to think differently about how they can serve the greater community and take an active role in doing so. Earlier this fall, Nick Revers ’15 did both by working with a local deli to serve the thousands of homeless in the Boston area.

Nick partnered with Moody’s Delicatessen & Provisions in Waltham and Chef Joshua Smith to develop 2.1-ounce “Snack Sticks” for use by the Pine Street Inn and the homeless men and women it serves. The Snack Sticks are shelf-stable, farm-to-table organic snacks made from high-quality local meat and have been used both on-site at Pine Street Inn and by their outreach staff.

“A lot of people donate soup or sandwiches to the shelter, which is great, but those really need to be eaten at the shelter,” Nick said. “The nice thing about the Snack Sticks is that they can be easily carried anywhere you go.”

Nick said that the best part of the whole experience was dropping off the product at the Pine Street Inn and seeing the look on the faces of the staff there.

“The feedback from the staff has been great,” Nick said. “We have been emailing back and forth and they said that they have been a huge hit both at the shelter and with the outreach team. They have already used up the initial batch so we are working with Moody’s Deli to make more and keep this going.”

The work Nick is doing with Moody’s was featured in the MetroWest Daily News on November 25. Click here to read the story.
