The right tools in the hands of a superior faculty produce a great educational environment. To that end, technology is an integral part of day-to-day learning at Rivers. All of the school’s buildings and classrooms are networked and have wireless access. With the latest in educational software, microscopes with computer uplinks, digital video cameras and editing software, and Internet access for research, teachers have the tools they need to find creative ways to utilize technology in their lesson plans. The school provides teachers with laptops and iPads. Laptops and iPads are available for student use in the library. In addition, each department has its own set of iPads for classroom use.
Rivers has its own intranet site that serves as both a school-wide resource and teaching tool for individual classes. Dubbed “Riversnet”, the site allows teachers and students to post and read announcements, send private messages, have online discussions, display work on individual class sites, look up assignments, and check the school’s calendar of events. Each student is given his or her own private Riversnet and e-mail account. Parents also receive a Riversnet account for access to their child’s schedule, grades, and comments, as well as the school calendar and announcements. Each year, the technology staff investigates, recommends, and implements new and emerging technologies.
