Director of Advancement
Boston University - BS
Jan has served as Director of Advancement at Rivers since 1997. A Boston University graduate and parent of a Rivers alumnus, she had previously served as assistant vice-president of development at Boston University and former director of institutional advancement at Curry College. She was the recipient of Rivers’ Bergen-Decker Award in 2000, and has extensive involvement in the Wellesley community.

Amy joined the Advancement Office at Rivers in the fall of 2008 as the Coordinator of Parent Relations. She manages all programs relating to current parents, grandparents, and friends, including the Parents’ League Auction, the Annual Fund, parent dinners, and other activities. Her two sons BJ and Matt are both alumni of Rivers, graduating in 2006 and 2008 respectively. Amy received a B.A. in psychology from Muhlenberg College and a M.Ed. in Counseling Psychology from Boston College.

Heather joins Rivers after 15 years in the nonprofit sector, where she founded two successful nonprofits, The Volunteer Family and Future Philanthropists, and consulted with more than 20 others. She has a bachelor’s degree from Middlebury College, an MBA from Babson College, and has taught courses in nonprofit management at Tufts University and Babson College.

Jimmy joined Rivers in the fall of 2013 as a Communications Assistant. Jimmy is responsible for gathering stories from the community to appear on the Rivers website and in The Riparian. Jimmy graduated from Springfield College in 2013 with a degree in Communications/Sports Journalism.

Nicola joined the Advancement Office in 2009. Prior to her time at Rivers, Nicola worked as an attorney in Boston concentrating on commercial real estate transactions. She received her B.A. in comparative literature from Dartmouth College in 2004 and a J.D. from Boston University in 2007.
Cheryl Malcolm joined the Advancement Office in 2012 and is a vital component of its day-to-day operations. She serves as the primary support person for the Advancement Office, which includes the Advancement, Communications, and Alumni departments. She is also responsible for various administrative tasks and plays a customer service role for parents, students, and faculty. Prior to coming to Rivers, Cheryl was a regulatory affairs specialist in the chemical and medical device industries. Cheryl earned her B.S. in Toxicology from Northeastern University. Cheryl volunteers extensively in the Natick Community, and has served on both the Natick Soccer and Natick Travel Basketball boards.
Director of Communications and Stewardship

Chris serves as Director of Communications and Stewardship, managing external communications for the school including publications, the website, weekly parent e-mails, and relations with the media, as well as stewarding donors of the school’s endowed and restricted funds. She was the recipient of Rivers' Bergen-Decker Award in 2004. Chris graduated from Tufts University with a B.S. in chemistry and did basic research in nephrology at the University of Southern California and the Massachusetts General Hospital for a number of years. She volunteered extensively in the Weston community and was chair of the Weston Education Enrichment Fund Committee before joining the Rivers Development Office in 2001.

Laurie has been at Rivers in various capacities since 1995. She was previously the Associate Director of Athletics, taught media literacy in the Middle School, and was the assistant varsity girls' field hockey and lacrosse coach. In 2002 Laurie received the Rivers School Athletic Department Distinguished Service Award. She has been in the Communications Department since 2004, working primarily as the web editor of the Rivers School and Rivers School Conservatory websites. In addition to her duties at Rivers, Laurie is the webmaster of The New England Preparatory School Athletic Council website. A 1992 graduate of Connecticut College, Laurie received her M.S. from Northeastern University in 1995. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Hudson Education Foundation and volunteers with Meals on Wheels and The Hudson Food Pantry

Meg McKelvy Speranza joins Rivers after a successful business career as a senior product manager at EMC and Oracle, and then as the owner of a specialty foods store in Hopkinton, MA. Most recently, Meg worked as a development coordinator at Marian High School. She has a bachelor’s degree in business management from Babson College. Her father, John E. McKelvy, Jr., was the head of the Rivers’ history department in the 1970s.
