Learning New Languages: Carlton Jester ’13 Launches Rivers Fanzone

Learning new languages is part of Carlton Jester’s ’13 passion – new computer programming languages, that is.
 
Jester ventured into computer programming before he came to Rivers. As a seventh grade student at The Meadowbrook School, he learned HyperText Mark-up Language (HTML) – the primary language used to build web pages – on his own and then went on to teach HTML to some of his Meadowbrook classmates.

Rivers' Parents' League rolled out the red carpet Saturday evening for this year’s Hooray for Rivers Auction and nearly 400 parents, faculty, and staff answered the casting call. By the end of the night they had contributed an estimated $199,000 (gross) in support of student technology, professional development, and co-curricular activities.

Artists Recognized with 24 Awards at SISAL Competition

Rivers student artists were recently recognized once again for their outstanding work, earning a total of 24 prizes at the Small Independent School Arts League (SISAL) Competition this past weekend.


“Spectra Speaks” to Students During Day of Silence Celebration

Students and faculty gathered in Benson Gymnasium last Friday for a Day of Silence assembly featuring guest speaker Spectra Asala. Spectra, of SpectraSpeaks.com, is a writer and media activist who focuses on issues relating to the rights of women, Africans, and members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community.

It’s a Busy Week for Rivers Singers

According to Upper School Choral Director Susan Emmanouilidis, the best musical learning experiences happen by trying several types of music in different settings. This week, students in Rivers’ Upper School Choruses are certainly putting this philosophy into practice. From Broadway musicals to contemporary pieces, the chorus is in the middle of a week packed with three very unique events.
